Dr. Nona Farbehi is a university lecturer and researcher at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and Garvan Institute in Sydney, Australia. She obtained her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at UNSW in 2018, supported by the prestigious International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) and Stem Cells Australia (SCA), under the supervision of Prof. Richard Harvey and A/Prof Robert Nordon. Her field of research involved large-scale single-cell transcriptomic analysis of cardiac stromal and stem cells at health and disease by applying different technologies and bioinformatics tools and designing and fabricating novel microfluidics systems. Her post-doc career at the GWCCG (Prof Powell's lab) focused on population-scale stem cell technology, where she took induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from patients and differentiates them towards neural and cardiac cells to understand how common DNA variation shapes cellular phenotypes and behaviour. She has secured more than $2.4M in research funding since 2017 and has published in high-tiered journals such as Nat Genetics, Cell Stem Cell, Nat Comm, etc.
